Should Developers Be More Like Fortnite And Go Free To Play?

Should Developers Be More Like Fortnite And Go Free To Play? 1

It’s no question that Fortnite is the most popular game out right now. Everywhere I go I see people, both young and old, doing the infamous flossing dance made popular by Fortnite. There are many things that could have contributed to Fortnite’s major success, but perhaps the most important aspect is that it is a Free-to-play game.

Ask yourself this question, would you have played Fortnite if it wasn’t free to download the game? I know I wouldn’t have, simply because the premise of the game seemed a bit goofy to me when I first saw it. To me, it was like a mix between Minecraft and Call Of Duty, which seemed like a very weird combination. At the time, Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode was just beginning to gain some traction and a small circle of friends was pressing me to try it out. I was reluctant at first, but their biggest argument was, you guessed it, “bro, it’s a free game!” So, as a sucker for savings, I went ahead and tried it.

Maybe this is the way many of you were introduced to Fortnite. Games nowadays are expensive and developers continue to find more ways to try and up the price any chance they get. Here’s an idea, why don’t these big name publishers take a page out of Epic Games book and release a full free experience for the fans.
