What Marvel’s Wolverine Teaser Could Mean for Insomniac Games and Their Future on The PS5

Insomniac Games has done it again with their newest announcement trailers that they showed during the PlayStation showcase event. Fans may not have been expecting any surprise games such as Marvel’s Wolverine, but lo and behold, that’s exactly what we got.

With the unveiling of Marvel’s Wolverine, it may be safe to assume that Insomniac Games has big plans for their games on the PS5 console.

Without a doubt, Wolverine and Spiderman are two of the most popular Marvel characters you can find. You’ll be able to find many red and yellow costumes on a cloudy fall night during Halloween any given year, which speaks volumes about the connections fans have to these two prominent characters.

So, what better way is there to kick off an MCU-style video game series than to use these two fan-favorite superheroes.

Marvel’s Wolverine Teaser Trailer

Spider-Man and Wolverine History

In a comic published in 2010 called Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine, we see Spider-Man and Wolverine in a time-traveling adventure where the duo become blood brothers, so the history between these two heroes is much deeper than fans may realize.

Even though a collaboration between Wolverine and Spider-man hasn’t been confirmed, or even teased for that matter, it wouldn’t be far-fetched speculation considering the history these two characters have. Spider-Man and Wolverine and appeared in video games together. One that most people may remember is probably Marvel: Ultimate Alliance where gamers got to form a team of heroes and take on a slew of different enemies.

Of course, this isn’t the approach Insomniac Games would take… hopefully.

Insomniac Games does a great job of creating well-defined stories which put players in the shoes of the character and make you build an emotional connection with them. So, I would never expect an Ultimate Alliance-esque game from this talented developer.

It would be a complete waste of this developer’s talent.

Spider-Man Web of Shadows

We would need to see something more along the lines of a Spider-Man Web of Shadows game, where these two heroes have a more fleshed-out story that was built through their previous solo games. Much like the MCU and Avengers storyline. Granted, Wolverine wasn’t a huge part of the game, but it shows that a collaboration between the two is possible since we’ve seen it once before in the past.

Taking on a task such as this one and creating the MCU of video games is something that I’m sure Insomniac Games would be willing to do, considering their band of talented writers. Plus, we’ve already seen how things played out smoothly with Miles Morales and Spider-Man. Miles had his own storyline with a few cameo appearances from Peter from time to time. Even though we knew that Peter was the original Spider-Man, Miles didn’t feel like a sideline character in a poorly constructed spinoff. Insomniac Games made us care about Miles in a way that only they could. He had his own powers, his own moves, and his own everyday problems that even a super-powered teenager had trouble dealing with.

This article may be predicated on wishful thinking, but it represents how much all of us can trust Insomniac games to create a series that does Marvel characters justice.

Do you think a collaboration between Wolverine and Spider-Man would ever happen? Even more, do you think Insomniac games will create something similar to the MCU with their games on the PS5? Leave a comment below. As always, thanks for reading. Stay Gritty, Gamers!
