There has been a huge spotlight on CD Projekt Red and their highly anticipated futuristic RPG, Cyberpunk 2077. With the many delays that Cyberpunk 2077 has had and all the beautifully depicted gameplay videos gamers saw, things looked like they were going to play out well on the December 10th release.
We couldn’t have been more wrong.
With all the misleading videos that we saw, mainly on last-gen consoles, players have been led astray when they finally got their hands on Cyberpunk 2077. Now, players are asking for a refund, but they are finding that their Cyberpunk 2077 refund is getting denied by Sony.
CD Projekt Red’s Refund Proposal
CD Projekt Red is well aware that they have misled gamers on the base PS4 and Xbox One into believing they would have a good experience. With the outrage from the gaming community in full swing, CD Projekt Red released a statement promising that they would fix Cyberpunk 2077 with a series of updates rolling out within the next two months.
However, for those who do not wish to wait that long, CD Projekt Red stated that refunds would be available through Sony and Microsoft. Read the full statement below.
Things Aren’t That Easy
Getting a refund from Sony is the equivalent of getting a new piece of cyberware installed from a ripdoctor, it’s a long and painful process. Sadly, CD Projekt Red made things seem like they would go over smoothly.
For users on the PS4, Sony is making things difficult for people who purchased Cyberpunk 2077. Sony’s refund policy is as follows,
“Full games, downloadable content, in-game consumables, and season passes fall under this category.
After purchasing this type of content through PlayStation Store, you have 14 days from purchase to request a refund. If you have started to download or stream the purchased content you will not be eligible for a refund unless the content is faulty.

The way that Sony handles their refund policy is almost the exact opposite of how Steam does their refunds. I for one have never had an issue with getting a refund from Steam for a game that I did not like or that didn’t run properly on my PC.
This Cyberpunk 2077 situation on PS4 is the exact same type of situation that would grant me almost an immediate refund from Steam.
Steam Refund Policy
As of right now, the only way you will be able to get a refund from Sony is if you never started the download for Cyberpunk 2077 at all. This single stipulation automatically makes a large number of gamers ineligible for the refund at all.
Sony Needs To Change Their Refund Policy
Usually when there is a big outcry from the video game community about a single controversial issue, i.e. microtransactions or loot-boxes, policies, and rules begin to change. Let’s hope that the same goes for Sony and their refund policy.
Furthermore, with the big issue of the false advertisement from developers, hopefully, we will see the rules changed in a way that will protect customers. Advertising and showing off a game’s quality on a high-end PC and neglecting to show off the quality on the console that the majority of gamers have has to be against a certain code of ethics.
It’s not all bad though. CD Projekt Red has made good on its promise of rolling out a few updates to fix a lot of the issues. Already, I’m experiencing fewer bugs and glitches during my time in Night City on the base PS4. Let’s hope that things get better in the long run.
