Over the past few months, what games have you spent the most time playing? Better yet, what games have you spent the most money on for a few cosmetics and shiny new accessories? If you’re like me, you must be thinking about one of two games (or both if you have the money for it), Fortnite, or GTA V.
It’s no question that Fortnite is the most popular game in the world right now. Racking up a total of 126 million total players since the battle royale mode has been released, Fortnite will continue to grow its player base with no signs of stopping. Since Fortnite is a free game, Epic Games makes money from the simple microtransactions they offer to every player.
You can enjoy Fortnite without purchasing any of its content, but you will definitely miss out on the extra fun the battle pass offers. This is how Epic Games brings you in. Once you see all the flashy dances and cool costumes that all the other players are sporting, you feel the devastation of envy, which is a feeling that grabs our young ones the most. Think about it, 126 million players, most of which will or already have purchased the battle pass, which costs 10 bucks alone, include the multiple v-buck purchases for costumes, dances, and pickaxes. Put that all into perspective and it’s easy to see why Fortnite has made nearly 300 million dollars in the month of April.

Fortnite has continued to grow in many ways by adding new game modes, weapons, and skins on a regular. Innovation is the consistent theme of Epic Game’s popular game. Inspired by PubG, Fortnite has managed to surpass the realistic shooter in almost every way possible. Reaching their grasp to all consoles and introducing cross-platform play to every console, ehm, except for Playstation, Fortnite isn’t going anywhere no time soon.
GTA V
I remember the day Grand Theft Auto V was released. I sat outside in the blistering heat during Gamestop’s midnight release awaiting my chance to get a copy of what was, for me, the most anticipated game ever. After beating the main story mode in just 2 days, I was craving more from Rockstar. That’s when GTA Online was announced, where players could join friends and grind for the big life on top.
Some suckers, like myself, chose to grind the game out the hard way and stayed away from the fast money made from bull shark cards, which made it easier to get the flashiest houses and cars. These microtransactions are how the best selling game ever created makes continuous money with the Online version of Grand Theft Auto.
Now adding the accomplishment of making more money than any film in history to their tall wall of achievements, GTA Online is continuing to grow it’s fan base with more free dlc and bull shark card sales.
Grand Theft Auto V has made a total of 6 billion dollars since it came out in 2013.
Rockstar has promised to support GTA Online for years to come, well over the lifespan of GTA V alone. With the continued innovation, who knows how many more records Gta can continue to break with its continued support.
