Without a doubt, Twitch overlays help you to become successful as you grow on Twitch. But, why?
It’s quite simple really.
With a unique overlay for your streams, your audience will be able to differentiate you from the other Twitch streamers. Overlays also provide viewers with more visuals, which help to increase audience retention during your streams.
Some of you may not know what a Twitch overlay is, so let’s start off by explaining it for any new streamers out there.
What Are Twitch Overlays?
A Twitch overlay is something that streamers use to make their streams look more appealing. With an overlay, streamers can brand their streams and help grow their audience in the long run.
Twitch overlays can range from a number of different designs such as a webcam frame or a “coming soon” message to let your viewers know that you are about to begin your stream soon.
The sole purpose of an overlay is to make your streams look more appealing to your audience and boost retention.
Which is key to growing your own audience on Twitch.
Ok, now that we have some of the basics out of the way, let’s move on to the reason you clicked on this article.
How To Get Twitch Overlays?
Ok, this question will have more than one answer to it and the answer you go with will come down to your situation.
Are you looking to get an overlay right this second or are you willing to wait a few days to get that perfect overlay unique to your taste? Either way, I got all the options covered in this article. Let’s start with the free options.
Twitch Overlays For Free
Downloading From Another Website
There are many places online that will allow you to use Twitch Overlays for free. Websites like behance and nerdordie have free templates for anyone who wants to get started with their streams sooner than later.
Personally, I don’t recommend going this route unless you’re really tight on cash. In the long run, you’ll end up with Twitch overlays that are similar to the rest of the streamers out there which defeats the purpose of branding your own stream.
However, if you’re looking for a temporary overlay to use just so you can make your streams look more appealing in the beginning then this is a solid option.
Creating Your Own
If you want to save some money but still want to have a unique overlay, you could always create your own if you have some basic skills with photoshop.
The biggest things to worry about when creating your own overlays are the dimensions. If the dimensions are off, then you’ll be left with a clunky overlay that may be annoying to the audience.
Here’s a video on how to create own overlay using photoshop. Keep in mind that this person in the video is creating this overlay for OBS.

Twitch Overlays For Sale
Once again, there is more than one option in this category, and it all depends on your unique situation.
The other two sites that I provided earlier in the article have paid options as well as free ones for twitch overlays. If you want a quick download for an overlay, you could always go to those sites.
Again, I don’t recommend this in the long-term. You’ll spend about $15 -$25 on an overlay that another streamer has already, which will defeat the purpose of branding your own twitch. Remember, the key is to be unique and appealing to your audience.
Hire a Twitch Overlay Designer
If you don’t have basic skills with photoshop, then this is honestly the best option for you. Hiring a designer may seem a little expensive, but it’s not. Well, if you want to spend the money on a expensive overlay, then the option is there, but most of them are around $15-$20.
You’ll end up spending the same amount that you would on one of the options above, except, it’ll be unique to your channel and your audience. All it really takes is a little bit of time to explain to the designer what you want and, boom! You’ll have a the perfect overlay.
There are a couple of places to get your overlays designed, but my favorite is Fiverr. I’ve done a lot of business with them in the past and the designers there are always nice and accommodating. Go ahead and check them out right now and see what I mean.
