Mortal Kombat 11: A Sincere Letter of Gratitude to Ed Boon

Mortal Kombat 11 is nothing short of a masterpiece. Now, that first sentence may rub some fans the wrong way, as most games have flaws, but those flaws are easily missed with MK11.

It isn’t often that I become so engrossed in a game that I contemplate calling off work the next day, but this seems to be the case with Mortal Kombat 11. I have been sitting front in center in my living room staring at my 4k television, and I hardly had the strength to peel my eyes away to write this article.

Anyway, here I am typing away as fast as possible so I can hurry up and get to the blood spilling mayhem that is essentially the essence of Mortal Kombat 11.

What’s So Special About Mortal Kombat 11?

Well, for starters, I don’t think I’ve seen a fighting game look so well polished in its meticulous design of the characters. The amount of detail that the guys over at Netherrealm have put into creating each character is beyond me.

When performing fatal blows and fatalities, you can just feel the anguish and pain that the characters are going through as they lose limbs, eyeballs, and pints of blood. I’m in no way, a squeamish person, but there have been a few times where I found myself twisting my face when watching a character get ripped apart. Honestly, who doesn’t want to feel like this when playing a Mortal Kombat game. My contorted face is a testament to the amount of realism and detail NetherRealm put into Mortal Kombat 11.

How’s the Fighting in Mortal Kombat 11?

Now, I may be treading through unknown territory as I talk about the fighting in Mortal Kombat 11. There are plenty of people out there who are able to pull off some of the most ridiculous combos by analyzing the stats that come with each movement the characters have.

If you want my novice opinion, the fighting feels fluent and free. Most importantly, the brutalities are crazy good in Mortal Kombat 11. So far, my favorite is the “What would Mileena do?” brutality that Jade has. My jaw dropped when I properly pulled it off for the first time as I watched Jade stab my opponent at least 6 times in the head. Check it out below.

What About the Story-Mode?

Although, Mortal Kombat 11 features a short story (maybe around 4 to 5 hours long), its still one of my favorites in the series. I like the creativity Ed Boon and Netherrealm put into developing a plot that would keep old and new fans of the Mortal Kombat series entertained.

The new characters that are introduced are cool, even though they’re not my favorites, they bring a lot to the story. If you haven’t gotten the chance to play the MK11 story yet, be sure to play through it soon. You don’t know what you’re missing.

In short, Mortal Kombat 11 is just what I needed to reignite my love for this fighting franchise. I appreciate everything Ed Boon and the guys over at Netherrealm Studios have done with this game. It is an entertaining masterpiece that I am itching to get back to as I type these last few sentences. Thank you, Ed Boon and NetherRealm for this highly entertaining game!
