I’ve spent a lot of time playing Mortal Kombat 11 since its release last month. I think it’s safe to say that the one thing that all MK11 fans can agree is the highlight of the game is the amazing story. However, the one complaint I keep hearing from fans is the microtransactions.
I recently wrote an article talking about how great Mortal Kombat 11 was. It was an impromptu depiction explaining how I felt about MK11 at that moment. After my article was published, I read the comments and the issue of MK11 microtransactions was brought to my attention.
Mortal Kombat 11 Microtransactions:
Now, I had spent at least 5 hours post story mode enjoying MK11 without even realizing that there were microtransactions in the game. You can say, “oh you’re just not paying attention,” or “how the hell did you miss them!?” But I say I missed them because I simply didn’t need them.
After beating the story mode I had plenty of koins and I spent about 10 mins in the Krypt where I racked up on a bunch of Konsumables and other items.
Post story you have a few options to continue enjoying the game. You can either play klassic towers, play online, offline, or the towers of time.
When you start playing the towers of time, you may feel like you have to use Konsumables in order to win. This will, in turn, make you use up all your Konsumables so you can spend real money to buy more Konsumables, costumes, augments, or whatever you feel you may need. You don’t need to spend your money!
When playing the towers of time, MK11 has a “recommended konsumables” tab where they suggest what you need to even the odds of the match. I managed to beat almost every enemy on my tower without using any of my items. Just be smart about how you use your Konsumables and “get good” so you won’t have to spend any real money.
Granted, the timed towers are a bit more difficult than the klassic towers as the enemies have buffs that put the battle in their favor, but most enemy buffs are manageable without using your own.
Another thing people complain about is the fact that MK11 is too “grindy”. What fighting game isn’t? The amount of time you spend learning a new character can be put toward upgrading your gear so you can equip new augments and abilities.
I get it though. The microtransactions aren’t needed in a game like MK11. It’s an unnecessary feature that brings more unnecessary controversy. But, it doesn’t break the game.
The way I see it is that these new features in MK11 are just adding more layers to a basic formula to increase longevity in the gaming community. If you want to keep it simple just play the klassic towers and stay in online lobbies. You don’t have to participate in the elements of the game that may entice players to use Microtransactions.
How do you feel about the microtransactions in MK11?
