It’s clear that the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise is the best in recent years. Every time I run into a fellow Call of Duty fan we get into a conversation that claims that Call of Duty Modern Warfare is the best Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 2. Sadly, it still doesn’t deliver the same impact that Modern Warfare 2 gave us.
The story from Call of Duty Modern Warfare keeps you interested throughout and its no question that the gameplay is as polished and intricate as ever. However, the Modern Warfare 2 experience has impacted me in such a way that it has garnered a slot in my top 5 game list.
When you play Modern Warfare 2, you feel like an elite super soldier, actively and quickly finding the best way to survive the intense situations that come forth, honestly, you feel unstoppable. Most of the cinematic sequences that you play through in Modern Warfare 2 are hair-raising moments, and I sadly didn’t feel that way when I played the new Modern Warfare.
Don’t get me wrong, Modern Warfare is amazing and Activision did some unique and gutsy things to make this Call of Duty feel much different from any of the others. For instance, playing as young Farah Karim and watching her struggles in poverty and the violence-stricken world was something no other Call of Duty has done. But, it still falls short.
In Modern Warfare 2 I felt a great connection with the characters, back in 2009 when I first played it, I’m not ashamed to say that I almost cried from a particular scene when one of my favorite characters died. My sadness quickly manifested into a rage when I wanted to go after the bastard that killed him. Modern Warfare fails to produce these emotions for me.
Modern Warfare 2 Co-op
Modern Warfare 2’s co-op was a lot better than the current co-op for Modern Warfare. The missions were a lot more grounded in an experience tailored for the local split-screen gamer. The Co-Op for this Modern Modern Warfare is more for the online experience which sacrifices the quality of gameplay.
All in all, Call of Duty Modern Warfare is an amazing game, but it simply fails to bring the same experience as its predecessor.
