Call of Duty Modern Warfare is nothing short of amazing. With beautiful graphics, polished gameplay mechanics and brand new maps, this is easily one of the best Call of Duty games in recent years. With all the new improvements, the piece that shines the brightest in this installment of Call Duty is the Modern Warfare Campaign.
Featuring an in-depth storyline, you play as various characters as you try to stop the onslaught of the Russian army. The entire campaign is worth talking about, but here are the top 5 missions in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Campaign.

Captive
In the mission Captive, you play as Farah when she is held in captivity by Roman Barkov, a Russian General who is the main antagonist of Modern Warfare. In this mission, we get to see how Farah has fought to survive and why her people respect her so much. As Farah is held by Barkov in a small, concrete prison underground, Barkov repeatedly tries to break her with various tactics, including waterboarding, starvation and threatening to kill her people, as he tries to extract information from her.
Despite all of Barkov’s efforts, Farah stays strong and finds a way out using a broken spoon as a shiv and frees her people from captivity. Farah and her comrades get into the gun locker using a key that Farah’s brother, Hadir, gives her and fight their way through Russian soldiers to freedom until she saves her brother and ultimately meets Captain Price.
Why this mission is important: This mission puts you in the shoes of a less experienced Farah during one of the most vulnerable situations in her life. We get to see that despite her inexperience with leadership and firearms, Farah has always had the tenacity to fight for survival and her people. We also get to see that Farah and Captain Price have had a history together as his team lent a helping hand in the end.
Hometown
In the mission Hometown, you play as Farah as a child. You begin the mission as Farah when she awakens in a pile of concrete and rebar next to her dead mother. Completely submerged, Farah has to fight her way out to signal to the first responders above her. While playing as child Farah, we can immediately see why she is so bent on saving her people. As Farah looks around at the chaos that has blanketed her home, you can’t help but feel sorry for her.
When Farah is pulled out of the rubble, she is reunited with her father as they make their way back home, dodging soldiers, dead bodies, and poisonous gas. When Farah and her father make it back home to her brother Hadir, they are ambushed by a soldier who invades their home and fatally shoots their father. At this point, Farah has no choice but to fight off the soldier using weapons around the house until she and her brother take him down.
Why this mission is important: As you play as young Farah, you get to see her origin. As the player, you are forced to step through an alternate reality and see through the lenses of a desperate child who is a victim of war and chaos. Seeing Farah get her first kill, we can understand why she is so ruthless and ambitious when it comes to her people.
The Wolf’s Den
During the Wolf’s Den mission, you play as Alex as you and your squad push through a home full of terrorists and their families. Immediately you are put on edge when you see that a mother turns hostile and you realize that anyone can be a potential threat within the cramped home.
Moving from room to room, Alex must swiftly sweep past each corridor on alert at all times. Soon after the sweep, this mission takes the idea of confined spaces to the next level when Alex and Farrah get stuck within a gopher hole surrounded by hostiles, trip mines, and plenty of fiery explosions.
Why this mission is important: The Wolf’s Den mission puts you in the shoes of one of the most erratic and terrifying situations a soldier may encounter. Creeping through dark unfamiliar areas and trying to figure out where the enemy is coming from, will male anybody feel helpless. Maneuvering through tunnels while trying to avoid trip mines and civilian casualties, the Wolf’s Den easily becomes one of the best missions in the Modern Warfare Campaign.
Highway of Death
This mission may not be the first choice on other people’s lists, but for me, it was one of the most entertaining. In the Highway of Death mission, you play as Alex as you Farrah, Hadir, and their squads attempt to ambush the wolf during his drive down a highway.
Armed with a specialty Sniper gifted by Hadir, Alex has to take out enemies up to 600m away while accounting for bullet drop and wind speed. This mission puts you as close as possible to what it feels like to be a deadly sniper without actually having a gun in your hands. With each landed shot, you feel the satisfaction of knowing that you considered the bullet drop and range to land that final blow.
Why this mission is important: The sniper sequence in this mission is fun and all but this is an essential mission for the plot of Modern Warfare. During the Highway of Death mission, the relationship between Farah and Hadir will become strained forcing others to make hard decisions in the future.
Into the Furnace
This is the last mission of the Modern Warfare campaign. During this mission, you have the opportunity to play as the main cast of characters as Farah finally gets to enact her revenge and save her people.
This mission is filled with ambushes, explosions, helicopters, and cinematic music as you come to the conclusion of the Modern warfare story. Oh, did I mention that you go toe to toe with a Juggernaut for the first time?
Why this mission is important: Into the Furnace is the Climactic ending that we all wanted from such an entertaining campaign. You have to play it to really understand how fun this mission is.
