Apex Legends’ Shadowfall Denotes Life as a Vengeful Entity

This week, Apex Legends released a new game mode called Shadowfall where players fight for a spot on an evac ship that appears when there are only 10 players left. But, there’s a catch. The players who were previously slain by other legends come back as zombies with infinite lives and are given the opportunity to stop the living legends from escaping.

As I played this new game mode, I couldn’t help but realize how malicious I felt when trying to stop the other players from escaping. It’s one of those situations where you’re like, “I didn’t make it so you’re not either!” I imagine this is how all those zombies and ghosts felt in those classic horror movies. Participating in evil acts of violence to foil any chances of success from the living.

Winning in Shadowfall

In Shadowfall, there are two ways of winning. You could either become one of the top 10 living legends and escape to the Evac ship at the end or you could die, come back as a zombie, and kill every single living legend before they escape. If even one legend escapes at the end, the zombies lose.

This situation gives the zombies incentive to try hard to take out the rest of the legends so they can be rewarded with that victory screen at the end. This happened to be enough motivation to make me frantically bust down every door until I preyed upon a lonely legend.

Once you die as a legend, you are brought back as a skydiving zombie with low health and you can see an icon where you were just killed. Almost every time, I immediately went after the person who had just killed me to enact my revenge. Each time he/she killed me, I came back angrier and with an even more elaborate plan on how to take them out, until I finally got that killing blow. This was the most satisfying part for me. After I killed them, it was satisfying to know that they were essentially my spawn enacting the same malicious deeds to squander the other legends’ chance of success.

I Hear Voices

As you play Shadowfall there is a vindictive voice from a malevolent presence guiding you to do harm. He instructs you to kill every living legend so that no one escapes his island. Each time you die, he always has some comment belittling your death and motivates you to continue to hunt the rest of the legends.

Shadowfall offers players with exclusive rewards you can only get from playing this special event. Shadowfall will end in 2 and a half weeks, so jump in while you can!
