In certain anime shows, the main characters level up their skills and grow stronger over time. This adds excitement as we witness their progression and development. Examples include Sword Art Online, The Rising of the Shield Hero, Overlord, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and many more. It’s really exciting to see these characters become more powerful as they face challenges and be there in their fruitful journey.
Some protagonists show us the harsh reality throughout their journey and others create hope and laughter, which all together bring us together as avid anime fans
So, we are here covering the Top 10 Best Anime Series Where MC Has A Leveling System.
Even though most of the anime mentioned in this listicle will be familiar to you, you may still find a few that are new to you.
So keep reading till the end so you can find the best of all time!
Sword Art Online
One of the most popular anime series of all time because of its unique and exciting concept. It’s the best example of an anime where MC has a leveling system and during the process, his power increases tremendously.
The story revolves around our popular MC Kirito, who was trapped in an MMORPG game. It was a new concept for that era because games were not that developed in those times.
And if you haven’t watched it, give it a try because it’s worth it!
The Rising of the Shield Hero
Yet another popular anime comes in our top 2 and why not? It’s very relevant to our title where our main protagonist has no other option but to level up or get powerful because despite being summoned as a hero he was treated as an outcast.
Naofumi Iwatani, our Shield Hero, faces challenges and adversaries as he strives to level up and become a formidable hero.
Through battles, quests, and the support of his allies, Naofumi hones his defensive abilities and acquires new skills. He also overcomes prejudice and earns the respect of others. Naofumi’s journey to level up involves not only physical growth but also personal and emotional development, ultimately transforming him into a symbol of hope in a world that initially rejected him.
Overlord
Yet another masterpiece in the list where our main protagonist is trapped in an MMORPG game world as a skeletal mage. The only difference between Sword Art Online and Overlord is that in this anime even though MC is trapped he has an ambition to rule this world but in the previous one he wants to end this gaming world where he has been trapped forcefully.
That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime
One of the new era anime, which has been the most influential Isekai of all time. In this series, our main protagonist is summoned as a slime in a different world where all sorts of fantasy creatures are present.
Now, as a slime, he has to level up and face all the difficulties that come across his path.
The plot may sound simple but don’t try to ignore this series because it is one of the best isekai anime and will make you want to see more of it.
What is Isekai Anime?
Isekai Anime is a Japanese genre where the main character is transported or reincarnated into a different world.
The Irregular At Magic High School
One of the underrated anime on the list. This is a series that shows the true nature of leveling up and the power system in the show. Our main protagonist (Shiba Tatsuya) has to struggle to get leveled up throughout his journey as he was shown to have none of it. Even though he got admission to one of the prestigious universities, he has to prove himself and show that he is one of the best in the university.
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Again, one of the wonderful series but underrated ones on the list. The series starts with a few characters transferred to a new fantasy world like usual isekai anime but this time our main protagonist and his comrades had no clue about their past lives.
As the story unfolds they get to know about the harsh reality of their new world and they have to level up their skills for killing monsters.
The only hope to survive in this new world is to get powerful and struggle for your existence.
No Game No Life
Are you fond of video games and obsessed with them? If yes, then you can relate to our main protagonists in the series.
Our main protagonists are Sora and Shiro, who are siblings and unbeatable in any game they play. The only thing they do is play games all day because they don’t want to face the real world.
As they are very pro at gaming, they are invited to a world where they have to survive through gaming and defeat enemies by playing games.
This is one of the best anime if you want to see some cool and smart protagonists using some awesome moves to defeat their rivals.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Danmachi)
This is one of the most popular anime on the list because of its popular characters and beautiful goddess. The show is all about the main protagonist named Bell Cranel, who is a member of the Hestia Familia. His only dream is to become the greatest adventurer and get closer to his crush, Ais Wallenstein.
To become stronger, he tries to defeat monsters from the dungeon and level up throughout the story.
Konosuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!
One of my favorite comedy anime and I bet most of you have already completed this show. But if you haven’t, here is a reason why you should watch this masterpiece.
The show centers around Kazuma Satou, our main protagonist, who is transported to a fantasy world after his death in a very funny way in the first episode itself.
He is then forced to form a dysfunctional party with a goddess, a mage, and a crusader and embarks on comedic and adventurous quests to earn money and level up to defeat the demon king.
This is one of the series I recommend to watch if you want to laugh hard.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills
I know the name is a little long as expected from the isekai anime and I would say it’s a must-watch if you want to watch something peaceful and wholesome. The anime is all about a 27-year-old protagonist who is reincarnated to another world as a hero but it turns out that he has no skills and can’t help people because his skills are not known to anyone.
So he packs his bag and begins his journey as an adventurer. Throughout the journey, he realizes that he has a unique ability through which he can get whatever he wants from his past world (Japan), which is pretty handy. As the title suggests, he is a great chef.
So don’t miss this one because you’ll never expect what happens.
